The holidays are becoming a distant memory as we all find ourselves heading back to work, promising ourselves that this will be the week we start eating better / exercising / putting our New Year’s Resolutions into place…..but before we know it another week has gone by and we are still making those same promises to ourselves.
Let’s make today the day we start!  It is always a good idea to ease into a detox anyway, so before going full steam ahead how about starting with a few of these detox tips to get you in the mood:
  •    Rehydration:
Aim for at least 2 litres / day – water dilutes toxins and waste products enabling their excretion from the body.
  •    Hot water and lemon:
Start the day with a glass of hot water and ½ juiced lemon which will flush your body of toxins, cleanse and stimulate the liver and kidney, as well as allowing the digestive system to work more efficiently.
  • Sweat!
Exercise, followed by a visit to the steam room will help you sweat out those toxins!  Find it hard to make the time?  If you are willing to go hard, even 15 minutes a day will be of benefit, but get that heart racing!
  •  Decrease your caffeine intake
Caffeine can put added stress on our liver in the long-term and can stress out our adrenal glands with the resulting effect of us actually feeling even more tired after a cup of coffee / can of coke etc. has worn off.   Try to cut out at least one caffeine-containing drink / food that you consume every day.
  • Increase your fibre intake
Fibre will bind to the toxins and excrete them from your body, preventing constipation as well.
  • Go organic
Where you can, try going organic to prevent the intake of pesticides and other toxic chemicals found on non-organic foods.
Try these tips and in a week you’re body will already be thanking you, and will be in a better position to detox properly!
